US: As 2012 Comes To An End, The World Has Never Been Better
There’s an urban legend besetting the urbane that capitalism is a system of privilege designed for the Ebenezer Scrooges of the world. Not so. Capitalism works at least as well for us Bob Cratchits as it does for misers, probably better. Capitalism is the only proven mechanism by which the workers of the world may unite to lose their chains.

US: Dear President Obama, You Can’t Create Growth, But You CAN Suffocate It
President Obama recently generated a furor with his speech in Roanoke, Virginia, in which he stated: “There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who … know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. … If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. … If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

US: The Lauzen Plan: How to Rein In a $3 Trillion Rogue Pension Elephant
Last week the voters decisively vindicated Gov. Scott Walker. America also saw overwhelming referenda victories over runaway public pension costs in San Diego and San Jose. America, finally, may be seeing daylight at the end of the tunnel of $3 trillion in unfunded state and local pension liabilities.

US & 2012 Elections: Good Money And Jobs vs. Easy Money And Stagnation
The 2012 presidential election is shaping up to include an argument over opportunity versus equality. The American economy has been stagnant for a decade. Income for working men has been stagnant(or even contracting) for 40 years. Why?

US: Is Herman Cain The Next Game Changing Political Force?
All of his former rivals now unite behind the GOP’s presumptive nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney. Conservatives and most libertarians are joining together in opposition to the now softly (and, one hopes, temporarily) despotic Democratic Party. Herman Cain, in this process, may prove to be the one with the biggest impact on the presidential election, the contest to hold the House, gain the Senate majority, and the future direction of the GOP.

US: Death By Fairy Tale: After Occupy, “The 99% Spring” Fizzle
May 1, International Workers Day, has been designated by the left for the “first General Strike in American History:” A Day Without the 99%. No Work—No School—No Housework–No Shopping. Take the streets on Tuesday! But … the call for the General Strike is not getting traction from us — the 99%. We whose interests it purports to represent and from whom it seeks to draw legitimacy, are decisively spurning the call.

US elections 2012: Why Does Rick Santorum Have “Serious Problems” With the Gold Standard?
On a recent episode of the Glenn Beck Show, Beck had an exchange, summarized here, with presidential candidate Rick Santorum: “I think you’ve got to put the Fed back in the business of just managing the money supply for the purposes of holding inflation in check,” Santorum said. “If the Fed’s only mission was dollar stabilization, then they wouldn‘t be doing what they’re doing right now.”

US: The Grave Economic Consequences Of Money For Nothing
Something is crushing economic growth. The New York Times teases, “Dismal Jobs Report Puts Policy Makers on the Spot.” Stalwarts of the Status Quo are confounded. Time to get down to basics. The trouble is money, money ex nihilo, money for nothing.

US: What The Left Fails To Grasp Is That Gold Equals Jobs
What’s the matter with Thomas Frank? This question was posed and answered a few years ago in TheNew York Sun’sreview of Frank’s The Wrecking Crew. “Mr. Frank’s point about contemporary conservative politics is straightforward and dogmatic,” writes the Sun. “It lives and breathes to support American plutocracy.”
