The Iran-Saudi Confrontation: Who Will Win In The End? – Analysis
2016 has begun with a sudden escalation of tension between Iran, the leading Shia power, and its regional rival, Saudi Arabia, the leading Sunni power. Such escalation, unless addressed, can have serious adverse consequences for regional stability and peace and also for the efforts under way to bring to an end the war in Yemen and the wars in Syria. It might also have an impact on oil prices, by either accelerating the fall in prices or inflating them.

India: ULFA’s Unrealistic ‘Charter Of Demands’ – Analysis
On August 5, 2011 seven pro-talk United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leaders led by Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Chairman of ULFA, submitted a “Charter of Demands” to the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi. The submission of the “Charter of Demands” is the first step towards holding formal peace talks between the Union government and the ULFA later this month. Japan-South Korea Spat Over Takeshima/Dokdo – Analysis
As Japan grapples with pressing domestic issues a new challenge has emerged on the foreign policy front. This time, with South Korea over Takeshima (known as Dokdo in South Korea, as well as the Liancourt Rocks) – a dispute that has been going on for the past six decades. The territorial dispute with South Korea led to a diplomatic spat between the two countries as Seoul turned away three Japanese lawmakers from its Gimpo airport and thwarted their bid to visit Ullengdo – the administrative and military base for the South Korean controlled Dokdo islet. Seoul viewed the Japanese parliamentarians’ visit as a way of strengthening Japan’s claims over Dokdo.
