BushHackers
A US official has claimed that Chinese hackers have penetrated the White House computer network and read official e-mails. If so, why? As the lamest of lame duck administrations quacks its way towards the finish, surely the Chinese did not expect to find anything coherent.

Man in the News: John Maynard Keynes
“We have reached a critical point,” John Maynard Keynes wrote in March 1933. “We can ... see clearly the gulf to which our present path is leading.” If governments did not take action, “we must expect the progressive breakdown of the existing structure of contract and instruments of indebtedness, accompanied by the utter discredit of orthodox leadership in finance and government, with what ultimate outcome we cannot predict.”

Russia is in need of firm handling
Russia starts 2008 with its confidence higher than at any time since the collapse of the Soviet Union. At home, President Vladimir Putin and his top officials have managed a succession which seems certain to ensure their grip on power for years to come. Abroad, Russia is increasingly willing to assert its influence, especially in the former Soviet Union. The high price of oil has given the Kremlin huge resources with which to remake Russia and try to fulfil its ambitions.

La estrategia de George W. Bush en Latinoamérica

Latin American lure
It would be hard to imagine better conditions in the global economy for countries that are heavily dependent on the export of primary products and also need capital. So Latin America should be able to face 2006 with some confidence.
