OAS secretary general offers to be a partner in a 'modern multilateralism' for the Americas
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, on Wednesday presented his candidacy for reelection in a speech before the Permanent Council in which he offered to continue to be a “partner” in the use of a “modern multilateralism to apply our common agenda, as ambitious as it may be, for the benefit of the people of the Americas.”

Foreign affairs minister reiterates Guyana's territorial sovereignty
Recent reports emanating from Suriname of presidential instructions under the previous Surinamese government to invade Guyana’s territory (namely the New River Triangle) have prompted Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett to reiterate the tri-junction point which clearly recognises the New River Triangle as being within the sovereign territory of Guyana.

Acts of torture by Guyanese police must be punished, says Amnesty Intl
Amnesty International has urged the Guyanese authorities to charge police officers involved in the torture and ill-treatment of three individuals, including a 15-year-old boy, who were detained in relation to a murder investigation.
