Middle East - Syria and the quartet’s meeting in Egypt
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement yesterday announcing that delegations from the quartet of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran [and Egypt] have arrived in Cairo to discuss the Syrian issue. This comes in response to Egypt’s proposal which was put forth at the end of Ramadan, during the Islamic Solidarity Summit in Mecca. Yet the truth is that there are a lot of questions that must be answered by the relevant people regarding this quartet.

Aleppo is not a surprise
The reaction of the international community, and likewise the Arab and Western media, towards the explosion of huge demonstrations in Aleppo is infuriating. When I say infuriating, this is because there is an overriding sentiment that Aleppo has “surprised everyone”, and this is not the case. Aleppo may have surprised the al-Assad regime, because it is detached from reality, but it should not have surprised the global media and the international community.

Syria and the U.S. Embassy attack
Last Sunday, Damascus said it would prefer to keep the ball rolling with Washington, after the U.S. ambassador visited Hama last Friday. Then the Syrian regime sent its affiliates to attack the U.S. and French embassies in Damascus, so how can this be understood?

Iran is the biggest danger
The danger of Iran in our region is not in any way difficult to prove. In order to see evidence of hostility, and the danger, we only need to look at what Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday with regards to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, specifically Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia and Israel Once Again
Last Saturday, I wrote that two parties have been provoked by the intense Saudi Arabian political presence and activity at the international level, especially after the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz participated in the G20 summit in Canada, and following this visited Washington where he received a warm welcome from US President Barack Obama.

Bin Laden and Minerals…and Abu Dalama’s Fate?
We were expecting the Americans in Afghanistan to announce, any time now, that they had discovered the whereabouts of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and had arrested him as a result, as that is the stated aim of the Afghanistan invasion.
