"Venezuela is a sovereign country and they will decide the most appropriate thing to do. But as Peruvian, I would respect the decision (of the Court) in Peru," Prime Minister Salomón Lerner said.

 

Peru would respect the ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court) on the political rights of an opposition leader, contrary to the recent the case of Venezuelan politician and former Chacao municipality mayor Leopoldo López, who was disqualified in his country, said Tuesday Prime Minister Salomón Lerner. 

"If it was the case of a Peruvian who was in that situation, I would say that we should fully respect the decision of the Court," Lerner answered when asked about López's case in the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington think-tank, AFP reported. 
"Venezuela is a sovereign country and they will decide the most appropriate thing to do. But as Peruvian, I would respect the decision (of the Court) in Peru," Lerner said.
