Caribbean Journal- Staff

The United States and Guyana have signed an Open Skies air services agreement, the State Department Announced this week.

The agreement was signed March 25 by US Ambassador to Guyana Brent Hardt and Guyana Public Works Minister Robeson Benn.

The deal formalizes what the State Department called the “liberalization of the bilateral aviation relationship between both nations.”

In a statement, the US said the agreement “creates opportunities for strengthening the economic partnership between the United States and Guyana through closer links in transport and trade.”

Open Skies agreements allow unrestricted air service by airlines of both countries, between and beyond the other’s territory.

They allow airline managements to determine how often to fly, which aircraft to use and the prices to charge.

The US has signed Open Skies agreements with more than 100 partners.
