01/10/2015 | US - Election2016: Russians Tried to Access Hillary’s Email

The Daily Beast Staff

The latest batch of emails released by the State Department on Wednesday revealed Russia-linked hackers attempted to break into Hillary Clinton’s private email account at least five times while she served as secretary of state. It’s still unclear if she opened any of the infected emails or exposed her account, the AP reports.

The hacks were disguised as speeding tickets over the course of four hours in the morning of Aug. 3, 2011. The emails gave instructions to print the attached tickets, which would have allowed hackers to seize control of the recipient’s computer. Security experts who examined the malicious software said infected servers would have transmitted data to at least three server computers overseas, including one in Russia.
