09/06/2006 | 15th Latin American Congress Of Ports In Guayaquil, Ecuador

AAPA Ports Staff

The most important annual event of Latin American Ports will take place altogether with the Commission of Inter-American Ports of OAS on next June 27-30 at the grand Colon Hilton Hotel in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The program will be an historic event thanks to the synergies developed by both organizations. In accordance with the demands of economy globalization, the congress will deal with “Transportation Logistics and Infrastructure: Key to Competitiveness”, and will develop matters of interest for the national port authorities, ports, private terminals, and port operators.

The program will start by developing topics identifying the event, and will further focus on the trends of sea transportation and its influence in Latin America. The situation of the infrastructure in the region will also be revised, continuing with the need to develop the areas on logistics activities. An interesting debate on relationships among the port authorities and terminals and the private operators will subsequently be encouraged, which are of vital importance to achieve the efficiency required by world globalization. We will finally develop a topic for reflection: “Ports as Promoters of the Logistics Development of Foreign Commerce”, ending with a roundtable on conclusions and recommendations. The event will be completed with a joint document issued by AAPA-CIP/OAS that may serve as guideline both for our governments and the private sector in order to accomplish the construction of harmonious, productive relationships enabling adequate competition. Also, social activities at night and day programs in the city for accompanying persons will be held that will continue strengthening relationships among all the actors of the ports system.

Worthwhile mentioning in this event is the introduction of the distance learning training program of the Professional Port Manager to Latin America (Latin PPM), a task being developed by the Latin American delegation during the last two years.
