Obama “looks forward to discussing a broad range of bilateral and regional economic and security issues during their Oval Office meeting,” according to a statement by the U.S. government.

“The president also welcomes the opportunity to underscore the strong bonds of friendship between the American and Honduran people, as well as President Lobo's efforts to restore democratic and constitutional order in Honduras and the country's return to the Organization of American States earlier this year.”

Honduras was readmitted in June to the Organization of American States (OAS) regional bloc, ending a two-year diplomatic hiatus following the widely criticized coup that drove Manuel Zelaya from power.

Lobo has been seeking dialogue with different social groups, aiming to seek some constitutional reforms, as did Zelaya. He has also said he will only serve one term in office; his term ends January 27, 2014.
