Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa appointed six new ministers and a new governor on Monday, as part of a cabinet reshuffle 10 months before his term ends.
Defense Minister Javier Ponce became new agriculture minister, while his portfolio was held by former Agriculture Vice Minister Miguel Carvajal.
Juan Francisco Vacas was named as minister of labor relations, Doris Solis as economic and social inclusion minister, Richard Espinosa minister of social development coordination and Augusto Espinosa minister of human talent.
Correa also appointed Viviana Bonilla as new governor of the coastal Guayas province, the second most populous state and an economic hub of the country.
Bonilla replaced her predecessor Roberto Cuero, who resigned over a corruption scandal.
"We count on you, we trust your leadership capability and we expect great results. We have to make things extraordinarily good because the motherland can't wait," Correa said at a ceremony.
Correa, who will end his five-year term in February 2013, renewed 15 ministers, almost half of his cabinet members in November last year.
