Officials from the governments of Peru and the United States met at the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense to discuss issues related to security and defense cooperation, the Peruvian Embassy in Washington reported Saturday.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Peru in the United States, Harold Forsyth; USAF Brigadier General Peter E. Gersten and Brig. Gen of the Peruvian Air Force, César Augusto Fernandez Corbetto.

Senior officials of the two countries’ joint commands also take part of the gathering.

The meeting was aimed at developing strategies to cope with natural disasters, drug trafficking, illegal mining as well as to ensure the integral development of the Amazon, according to the Peruvian Embassy.
