08/08/2010 | EU10 Regular Economic Report July 2010
World Bank Staff
The recovery from the global financial crisis continued in 2010, but the rebound is feeble and fragile. In the emerging economies of Asia and Latin America, global activity is picking up solidly supported by strong domestic demand and a resumption of trade flows. In advanced economies, the United States and Japan are leading the recovery as confidence has picked up among consumers, businesses and in financial markets. In Europe, which was more severely affected by the crisis than other regions, the economies have stabilized and, for the first time since the start of the global financial crisis, have returned to growth in 2010 Year-on-year growth in the EU10 region improved from -2.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 0.8 percent in the first quarter of 2010, in line with the improvement from -1.9 percent to 0.6 percent over the same period in the EU15 region.
