The fight against drug trafficking is a comprehensive process and includes additional phases different from the eradication of coca crops which cannot be left behind, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala noted Thursday.
“The war on drugs is a comprehensive process. It’s not only about the eradication of coca crops, but an issue that must be complemented in each of its phases,” said the head of State.
President Humala went on to say that the elimination of illicit crops is just one of the phases in this war, which also includes the fight against money laundering, precursors trafficking, and the traffic of narcotics through ports.
“If we neglect the other phases and only focus on one, there will obviously be an imbalance in this new strategy against drug trafficking,” noted the Peruvian leader.
After opening the fourth edition of Mistura, the most important gastronomic fair of Peru and Latin America, president Humala highlighted Peru’s biodiversity giving coca farmers possibilities to cultivate other crops.
