Arab League Secretary General Nabeel Al Arabi has announced a possible visit to Syria with his mission being to voice Arab worries about violence in the country, according to him. Yet the real question here is whether the Arab League would present anything that is tangible and fruitful as there is a serious question on how effective its role is in bringing an end to the violence.

After all, the situation between the Syrian government and the protesters has reached a critical point as use of violence continues and the number of casualties keep rising by the day. There is a dire need for an immediate forum for dialogue and consensus in Syria. And this is a capability that the League greatly falls short of being able to fulfil.
